Server Troubleshooting – AKLWEB HOST LLC Support Center https://support.aklwebhost.com Thu, 05 Dec 2019 00:38:22 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.4.4 Troubleshooting/Reporting Network and Packet Loss Issues https://support.aklwebhost.com/knowledgebase/troubleshooting-reporting-network-and-packet-loss-issues/ https://support.aklwebhost.com/knowledgebase/troubleshooting-reporting-network-and-packet-loss-issues/#respond Thu, 05 Dec 2019 00:38:12 +0000 https://support.aklwebhost.com/?post_type=manual_kb&p=2447 Network and packet loss can be very tough to diagnose without the appropriate information. For us to be able to properly diagnose and resolve packet loss or network related issues we will need the following:

  1. The source (your IP) IP and destination (the server IP) IP.
  2. A description of the exact issue you’re experiencing and exactly what time you experienced the issue.
  3. A MTR to both the destination (server) IP and the gateway IP on the same block. The gateway MTR will allow both you and us to compare and see if the issue is specific to your server or the network.

MTR for Linux users:

mtr <IP Address>

MTR for Windows users:

Download WinMTR and use the GUI interface.

Troubleshooting Network Speeds (Upload/Download) https://support.aklwebhost.com/knowledgebase/troubleshooting-network-speeds-upload-download/ https://support.aklwebhost.com/knowledgebase/troubleshooting-network-speeds-upload-download/#respond Thu, 05 Dec 2019 00:37:24 +0000 https://support.aklwebhost.com/?post_type=manual_kb&p=2445 There are a great deal of factors that can affect upload and download speeds from a dedicated server.

Resource usage: This is typically the most common culprit. Heavy CPU, RAM, or I/O usage can severely limit the transfer speeds that the server is capable of. The easiest way to diagnose this issue is to test within a clean environment, such as a Linux Live CD.

Peering and Congestion: Specific routes may have points of congestion, where the full throughput speed is not available at a specific point along the route between the server and client. Our direct connections with our upstream are guaranteed never to be more than 80% utilized, to allow for traffic bursts.

Distance: The further the distance between the client and the server the points of congestion and the higher the latency. Both of these can have a major part in transfer speeds. If there is no congestion along the route, the server OS may not have TCP Windows Scaling enabled.

Enabling TCP Windows Scaling in Linux and Windows will usually drastically improve transfer speeds.

Reformat and Reload Operating System https://support.aklwebhost.com/knowledgebase/reformat-and-reload-operating-system/ https://support.aklwebhost.com/knowledgebase/reformat-and-reload-operating-system/#respond Thu, 05 Dec 2019 00:36:55 +0000 https://support.aklwebhost.com/?post_type=manual_kb&p=2443 To request a fresh install of an operating system on a Dedicated Server please open a ticket by e-mailing at support@aklwebhost.com. List the operating system to install and any specific options, settings, and partitioning. Each server is entitled to 1 complimentary reload per month. Each additional reload may incur a $45 charge, upon request please approve this charge. All reloads are completed within 24 hours of a confirmed request.

Each server also includes KVM over IP access. The KVM over IP interface will allow you to access the server at the console level. The KVM interface can be used to re-install the server. KVM access details are available within the Dedicated Server Panel.
