Parked Domains vs. Addon Domains https://support.aklwebhost.com/knowledgebase/parked-domains-vs-addon-domains/ https://support.aklwebhost.com/knowledgebase/parked-domains-vs-addon-domains/#respond Mon, 25 Nov 2019 12:39:46 +0000 https://support.aklwebhost.com/?post_type=manual_kb&p=2077 Summary
Here is a brief explanation of the difference between a parked domain and an add-on domain

Addon Domains
An Addon Domain is a domain name which points to its own folder within public_html and appears as a separate website from your primary domain.

  • This allows you to have two separate Web sites on your account. You can have a cars.com and then a candy.com as an add-on domain. The candy.com would be a completely separate Web site and visitors would not know that it is part of your cars.com account.

Parked Domains
A Parked Domain is a domain name that points to your main Web site on your account

  • For example, if cars.com is your main Web site, you can purchase the cars.net and assign it as a parked domain so that if a visitor were to type cars.net they would see the same Web site as if they had typed cars.com.

Adding any Domain Name to your account

You are welcome to host any domain extension with us by simply assigning the domain to your AKLWEB Host account, and pointing the nameservers to ns01.unlimited.aklwebhost.net and ns02.unlimited.aklwebhost.net.

Click Here for step by step instructions on how to assign a domain to your AKLWEB Host account.

With regards to domain name registration, currently we can register .com .net .org .us .biz and .info domains. All other domain extensions must first be registered with a company capable of registering that extension. From there you should be able to point your nameservers to us so that you can use our hosting services.

If you do wish to purchase additional domains through us, they can be registered form us, per domain, per yea

Clients in China Are Unable to View My Website https://support.aklwebhost.com/knowledgebase/clients-in-china-are-unable-to-view-my-website/ https://support.aklwebhost.com/knowledgebase/clients-in-china-are-unable-to-view-my-website/#respond Mon, 25 Nov 2019 12:36:09 +0000 https://support.aklwebhost.com/?post_type=manual_kb&p=2065 We offer shared hosting. In shared hosting, we host several hundred websites on one server; those same sites will share one single IP address, referred to as a shared IP address.

  1. Instead of having a unique IP address for every domain, you share one IP address with all of the accounts on your server.
  2. The downside to a shared IP address is that some countries, like China, censor particular websites by their IP address.
  3. If a website they censor is on the same server as yours, and China blocks that website using the shared IP address, then your website and the hundreds of others on that server are also blocked.
  4. This means that any clients in China would be unable to view your site.

Getting a dedicated IP address would make your website separate, by having its own unique IP address. So if the shared IP address was blocked, your site wouldn’t automatically be blocked along with it.

Additional Notes:

The Golden Shield Project, sometimes referred to as the Great Firewall of China, is a censorship and surveillance project operated by the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of the People’s Republic of China.
